Dislocation, its causes and Preventive Measures of Dislocation

Meaning

The term dislocation usually refers to the movement out of normal position of the bones of a joint. When there is dislocated in our body then our bones do not meet properly at the joint. After this, there is swelling and pain on the dislocated part of the body.

Sometimes in dislocation bones of a joint is pulled out of there place a little, we can call this Incomplete dislocation or subluxation. In other cases bones separated from each other. That is complete dislocation. A doctor or physician corrects it by manipulating the bones to return them to their normal position, this procedure is called reducing the dislocation. Sometimes dislocated bones of a joint return to their place naturally. In simple dislocation, the patient has no external wound. A compound dislocation is one accompanied by a wound opening from the body surface. when dislocation occurs in the same joint many times, we can say it is habitual.

Causes of Dislocation

Dislocation vary from game to game and situation to situation in sports. However,

1. Some of the main reasons may be a direct blow to the part concerned i.e. knee, wrist, shoulder, ankle etc.

2. Dislocations are causes by injury on joints or when a particular weight falls on a specific joint.

3. Pulling or jerking on a particular joint may also cause dislocation.

4. When a sudden force is applied on the joints then it can be displaced the bones from normal position of that joint.

5. Sometime dislocation is caused due to powerful muscle contraction particularly knee cap dislocation.

6. Landing on an outstretched arm during a fall may also cause dislocation.

7. Cutting moves on the fields or courts also causes dislocation in different joints.

8. It may be cause by a motor vehicle accident

9. A hard blow to a joint during the practice of a game/match or any physical activity may also causes dislocations.

10. In such moves sports persons change direction suddenly that causes bones in the different joints to rotate which results in dislocation.

11. Poor muscle conditioning may also be the cause of dislocation and some time may be the end result of severe sprain in a particular part.

Preventive Measures of Dislocation

Some of the Preventive measures in dislocation may be under as:

1. Before a physical activity or game/match wear protective clothes and equipments.

2. A suitable warm up should be done before a game/match.

3. Avoid standing on a unstable thing or place because there is chances of falling.

4. Irregular surfaces should be avoided for running or track events.

5. Use of correct techniques or methods when exercising or any physical activity reduce the chances of dislocations.

6. An individual must build their overall strength and muscle tone with a long term conditioning or fitness programme according to the need of their game or sport.

7. One must wear well fitted shoes or footwear to avoid falls and Prevent dislocation.

8. Avoid extra muscles contraction during weight training.
